Its native range extends across Southeast Asia and Australasia, and the species is now cultivated throughout the tropics and widely naturalized. Among some 100 names for the fruit across different regions are the more common English names of great morinda, Indian mulberry, noni, beach mulberry, and cheese fruit.

Purification of a n-BuOH-soluble partition of the MeOH extract of Morinda citrifolia (Noni) fruits led to the isolation fruit contains a number of two new iridoid glucosidesphytochemicals, including lignans, 6alphaoligo-hydroxyadoxosideand polysaccharides, flavonoids, iridoids, fatty acids, scopoletin, catechin, beta-sitosterol, damnacanthal, and alkaloids.<ref name="chemical composition"/>

Noni is relatively easy to propagate. It can be propagated from seeds, stem or root cuttings, and air layering. The
