Most varieties contain cannabinol and cannabinin; Egyptian variety contains cannabidine, cannabol and cannabinol, their biological activity being due to the alcohols and phenolic compounds. Resin contains crystalline compound cannin. Alcoholic extracts of American variety vary considerably in physiological activity<ref name="chemical composition"/>

Plants reach about 3 m height with 3Propagation mainly by seed.5 cm stem diameter in 2 years, in 4 years about 5 m height and 7 cm stem diameter.
