The genus Blumea is found in the tropical and sub-tropical zones of Asia, especially the Indian Subcontinent and Southeast Asia. Kukundara is one of its species that is used in Southeast Asia.Loose yellow flower head scattered along much-branched leafy panicles. Two types of discoid flowers: peripheral ones tiny, more numerous, with tubular corolla; central flowers few, large with campanulate corolla.

Kukundara, Blumea balsamifera

Kukundara is a flowering plant belonging to the Blumea genus, Asteraceae family. Kukundara is also known as Blumea balsamifera, sambong, kakoranda, bhamaruda, etc.

Chemical Composition

Ngai Camphor oil consists almost entirely of l-borneol. It is redistilled to obtain the refined camphor for use in medicine. The dried leaves contain sesquiterpene lactones. [1]
