Alternanthera sessilis - Sessile Joyweed
Alternanthera sessilis grows up to 1 metre tall. It is an aquatic plant known by several common names. It is used as a vegetable specially in Sri Lanka and some Asian countries.
Uses
Intestinal cramps, Fever, Diarrhoea, Dysentery, Bronchitis, Asthma, Lung troubles, Fever, Scabies, Cuts, Boils.

Nine compounds were isolated and identified as phaeophytin a (1), pheophytin a' (2), oleanoic acid (3), beta-sitosterol (4), 3beta-hydroxystigmast-5-en-7-one (5), alpha-spinasterol (6), 24-methylenecycloartanol (7), cycloeucalenol (8), phytol (9).[1]

How to plant/cultivate
Succeeds in sun or moderate shade. Prefers a loamy, alkaline soil, but can succeed in a wide range of soils. Plants can be grown in moist to wet soil and in shallow water[3]
