Bidens pilosa is an annual plant producing an erect. The plant is gathered from the wild for local use as a food and medicine. In parts of Africa, the plant is allowed to remain as a weed in cultivated ground, and it is also sometimes cultivated.

A pantropical weed, where it can be found at elevations up to 3,600 metres.[3]
