Ksharaka wood is an evergreen tree grows up to 49 metres tall. The bole can be up to 60cm in diameter. The aromatic resin obtained from this tree is one of the most famous and most expensive on the planet. It has a very long history of use in religious ceremonies, at funerals etc in the Orient and is widely sought after as an ingredient in perfumery.

Chemical Composition
The essential oil yields a number of agarofurans, sesquiterpene alcohols and spirosesquiterpene alcohols. The stemwood yields sesquiterpenoids—gmelofuran and agarol; also a coumarinolignan—aquillochin. [2]

How to plant/cultivate
Seeds mature during July-August. It loses viability soon. Thus seeds are sown within a week of collection. Raising seedlings in poly-bag is preferred. Seed germination is more than 80%. [5]
