Chapa is a tall, erect herb or small shrub, growing 100 - 250cm tall. The hollow stems are generally unbranched; they usually become woody at the base and are around 1cm in diameter.
The plant is gathered from the wild for its use locally in traditional medicine and is also occasionally cultivated for its use as a seasoning.
