The rambutan (/ræmˈbuːtən/; taxonomic name: Nephelium lappaceum) '''Rambutan''' is a medium-sized tropical tree in the family Sapindaceae. The name also refers to the edible fruit produced by this tree. The rambutan is native to the Malay-Indonesian region,<ref name="int"/> and other regions of tropical Southeast Asia.<ref name="int2"/> It is closely related to several other edible tropical fruits including the lychee, longan, and mamoncillo.<ref name="int"/><ref name="int2"/>
== Description Uses== It is an evergreen tree growing to a height of 12–20 m. ==Chemical Composition==The volatile compounds identified in rambutan fruit is a round to oval singleusing GC/O are β-seeded berrydamascenone, 3–6 cm (rarely to 8 cmE) long and 3–4 cm broad-4,5-epoxy-(E)-2-decenal, vanillin, borne in a loose pendant cluster of 10–20 together. The leathery skin is reddish (rarely orange or yellowE)-2-nonenal, phenylacetic acid, cinnamic acid, ethyl 2-methylbutyrate, δ-decalactone, 3-phenylpropionic acid, and covered with fleshy pliable spines2, hence the name6-nonadienal, furaneol, which means 'hairs'.
