Shastra karma

Shastra Karma (Surgical Interventions) refers to the Main Surgical procedures as per Ayurveda. The Surgical procedures which can be carried out by any sharp instruments is called Shastra Karma. As per Sushruta Samhita, they are 8 in numbers so they ae also called Ashta Vidha Shastra Karma. Chedan, Bhedan, Lekhan, Vedhan, Eshan, Ahran, Vistravan, Seevan are their names. The Author of Ashtang Hrudayam mentioned 13 types of Shastra Karma by Adding Utthpatan, Kuttan, Manthana, Grahan, Dahana.

There is Detailed Yogya (Experimental models) to learn all these procedures, mentioned in compendia of Surgery. each procedures has clear indications, contra indications, complications and the texts also includes the pre-operative Purva Karma, peri-operative Pradhana Karma and post operative Paschata Karma management of patient including the management of complications Updrava. there are 20 types of Sharp instruments Shastra detailed in texts.
