Couroupita guianensis - Nagakesara

Nagalingam

Nagalingam, known by several common names, including cannonball tree, Couroupita guianensis, is a deciduous tree in the family Lecythidaceae, which also contains the Brazil nut (Bertholletia excelsa) and Paradise nut Lecythis zabucajo. It is native to the rainforests of Central and South America.?[1] It is cultivated in many other places.[2]

This tree is planted as an ornamental for its showy, scented flowers, and as a botanical specimen for its interesting fruit.[3] the trees are grown extensively in Shiva temples in India. The flowers are called shivalinga flowers in hindi; nagamalli flowers or mallikarjuna flowers in telugu.
