Barleria prionitis - Saireyaka

Saireyaka, Adenanthera pavonina

Saireyaka, is an erect, glabrous, evergreen shrub, growing up to 1.7 metres tall from a central taproot. The plant has a single stem according to one report, or is branched according to another. The base of the leaves is armed with three to five sharp, pale coloured spines, 10-20 mm long. The plant is gathered from the wild for use in traditional medicine. It is widely grown in the tropics as an ornamental.
