'''Alstonia scholaris''' is a medium to large stately tree, growing to about 40 metres tall with a somewhat tessellated corky grey to grey-white bark. The bole is cylindrical '''Saptaparna''' consists of stem bark of Alstonia scholaris (Lin) a tall evergreen tree, found in the Sub-Himalayan tracts ascending to 900m from Jammu eastwards and up to 125cm western peninsula mostly in diameter, on older trees it is strongly fluted.
