Asteracantha longifolia is a source of the ayurvedic drug. The seeds are acrid, bitter, aphrodisiac, tonic, sedative, used for diseases of the blood.

The plant gave lupeol stignasteril and hydrocarbons, the seed gave sterols and the flowers have apegenin glucuronide.[1]
