Planets and their trees
The nine grahas nine planets also have their arboreal equivanlents. The word graha actually means energy, but has come to mean planet. This means that each tree represents the energy symbolized by its corresponding planet. For example, Jupiter or Guru symbolizes wisdom and the teacher. The pipal tree is a source of wisdom and knowledge and great teachers like Buddha and Dakshinamurti are associated with pipal.
