The common names used in English for Syzygium cumini is Indian Blackberry, Jambul and Java Plum. The common name used in Hindi is Jamun and in Sanskrit is Jambu. It is an evergreen tropical tree in the flowering plant family Myrtaceae. Syzygium cumini is native to the Indian Subcontinent and adjoining regions of Southeast Asia.
