शब्दज्ञानानुपाती वस्तुशून्यो विकल्पः ॥९॥
Śabdajñānānupātī vastuśūnyo vikalpaḥ ॥9॥
- Śabda: word, sound
- jñāna: cognition
- anupāti: following upon
- vastu: object
- śūnyaḥ: empty
- vikalpaḥ: fancy, imagination
- Following upon knowledge through words but empty of an object is fancy.
- OR
- Verbal delusion arises when words do not correspond to reality.
Vikalpa - unfounded belief is imagination without the basis of an object. It is a creation of our mind. Unlike right and false knowledge, there is no real object in vikalpa.
