Zingiber montanum is a herbaceous perennial plant producing clumps of leaves from a large rhizome. The leaves form a pseudostem from 120 - 180cm tall. The plant is widely cultivated, especially in southeast Asia, as a medicinal plant.

Chemical Composition
Phytochemical investigations of Z. cassumunar rhizomes have revealed the presence of phenylbutanoids, cyclohexene derivatives, naphthoquinones, vanillin, vanillic acid, veratric acid [2–5], terpenoids, β-sitosterol, and curcuminoids.[2]
