Vasisthasana is an Asana. It is translated as Pose Dedicated to Sage Vasistha from Sanskrit.
The name of this pose comes from "Vasistha" meaning "excellent" or "the richest" or "best", and "asana" meaning "posture" or "seat". Vasistha is a name of a Sage.
This pose is often referred to as "Side Plank Pose" in the west.
Benefits and Cautions
Benefits of this pose are: strengthens core, legs and arms; stretches the hamstrings and inner hip muscles when grabbing onto the big toe in the full version.
Practice this pose with caution if you have shoulder, elbow or wrist injuries (including Carpal Tunnel), hip and hamstring injuries, and/or high blood pressure.
