Kvātha is the filtered decotion obtained by boiling coarse powder of drug(s) in proportion of 4 and 8 times for mṛdu and madhyama dravyas respectuvely of water and reduced to one-fourth and 16 times of water for kaṭhina dravyas and reduced to one-eight.[1]
