It is usually pale green to yellow when ripe, with sweet white (or, more rarely, pink or red) flesh and very thick albedo (rind pith). It is a large citrus fruit, 15–25 centimetres (5.9–9.8 in) in diameter, usually weighing 1–2 kilograms (2.2–4.4 lb). Leaf petioles are distinctly winged. The pomelo is a citrus fruit, usually a pale green to yellow when ripe, larger than a grapefruit, with sweet flesh and thick spongy rind. The largest citrus in the world, the pummelo can reach 12" in diameter. The pummelo tree may be 16 to 50 ft tall, with a somewhat crooked trunk 4 to 12 in thick, and low, irregular branches.<ref name="common names"/>

Pomelo, Mallikapuspa

Citrus maxima is a citrus fruit with the appearance of a big grapefruit and it is native to South and Southeast Asia.

Uses

Ulcers, Cough, Dyspepsia, Painful swellings, Diabetes, Malaria, Urinary flow, Diarrhea, Sore throats

Chemical Composition

The root-bark contains beta-sitosterol and acridone alkaloids. It also contains several coumarins. The alkaloids and coumarins show antimicrobial acitivity. The essential oil from the leaves and unripe fruits contain 20% limonin, 30% nerolol, 40% nerolyl acetate and 3% geraniol.[1]
