Reports vary as to whether the plant is an annual or perennial. The plant is harvested from the wild for local use as a medicine and source of food. It has potential for use as a herbicide. The population of Rhynchosia minima is believed to be stable and no real threats are known at present. The plant is classified as 'Least Concern' in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species(2013).
