Svarnakshiri, Adenanthera pavonina

Svarnakshiri, Argemone mexicana is an erect, branched, annual to perennial plant with prickly stems and leaves, growing around 60cm tall. The plant has a wide range of traditional medicinal applications and also provides an oil.

Uses

Wound healing, Malaria, Fever, Worm infestation, Blood disorders [1]

Chemical Composition

The herb contains isoquinoline alkaloids. The fresh latex contains proteindissolving constituents. Latex contains alkaloid berberine (0.74%), protopine (0.36%) and free amino acids. Sanguinarine is the toxic factor in seeds. [2]
