Yoga Sutra 1.29

ततः प्रत्यक्चेतनाधिगमोऽप्यन्तरायाभावश्च ॥२९॥

Tataḥ pratyak-chetana-adhigamo-‘py-antarāya-abhāvaś-cha ॥29॥

  1. Tatah: from that (practice of meditation on Aum)
  2. Pratyak: individual, turned inward
  3. Chetanā: consciousness
  4. Adhigama: attainment, realization
  5. Api: also
  6. Antarāya: obstacle
  7. Abhāva: absence
  8. Cha: and


From that practice the consciousness turns inward and the obstacles are overcome.

OR

From that comes the attainment of inward directed consciousness, and also the dissappearance of the obstacles.

Result of this Sadhana - There are two direct benefits that come from doing japa of Aum. The consciousness is introverted, and the obstacles disappear. Upon practicing the Aum Mantra in its in-depth meaning, an aspirant shall able to overcome all the obstacles that are being mentioned in the next sutra. According to Patanjali, an average person can obtain higher intelligence, keenness of mind and spiritual goals through this sadhana, Ishwara Pranidhana.
