प्रच्छर्दनविधारणाअभ्यां वा प्राणस्य ॥३४॥

prachchhardana-vidhāraṇa-ābhyāṁ vā prāṇasya ॥34॥

  1. prachchhardana: exhalation or rechaka
  2. vidhāraṇābhyāṁ: holding the breath outside or kumbhaka

One can control the mind by exhalation and retention of the breath.

Or mental equanimity may be gained by the even expulsion and retention of energy..

Removing the obstacles by controlling prana. According to Patanjali, this is one of the process to control the prana or vital energy. To do so, one needs to get awareness of the breathing pattern, and do gentle complete exhalation of the breath and hold it outside. And repeat the same upto 21, 51 or 101 times. This process is known as Kapalbhati or Agnisar.
