Piper chaba

Piper chaba is a flowering vine in the family Piperaceae that is native to South and Southeast Asia. In the Khulna Division of Bangladesh, and the states of Tripura and West Bengal in India. P. chaba is found throughout India, and other warmer regions of Asia including Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore and Sri Lanka.

Uses

Gastro-protective, Anti-flatulent.

Parts Used

Fruits.

Chemical Composition

It contains piperine, pipernonaline, guineensine, and the isobutylamide of 11-(3,4-methylenedioxyphenyl)undeca-2,4,10-trienoic acid. [1]

Simple Ovate or oblong-oval Leaves are numerous, 6.3 to 9.0 cm, dark green and shining above, pale and dull beneath. The older leaves are dentate, dark in color and heart shaped.

How to plant/cultivate

Irrigation is utmost essential during summer months. One or two irrigations in a week depending upon the water holding capacity of the soil, is needed. Even in the monsoon period if there is a failure of rain for quite some time, irrigation has to be given. In irrigated crop, fruit production continues even in summer months. [3]
